And the nominees are...
Willem Dafoe - The Florida Project
Woody Harrelson - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Richard Jenkins - The Shape of Water
Christopher Plummer - All the Money in the World
Sam Rockwell - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
What are your predictions for my ranking? How would you personally rank the nominees?
Given you didn't like Three Billboards that much, this is tricky to predict.
RispondiElimina1. Dafoe
2. Plummer
3. Harrelson
4. Rockwell
5. Jenkins
1. Dafoe
RispondiElimina2. Plummer
3. Harrelson
4. Rockwell
5. Jenkins
Welcome back!
RispondiEliminaIn retrospect, this would be my ranking of the nominees:
5) Plummer
4) Jenkins
3) Harrelson
2) Dafoe
1) Rockwell
However, given your mixed opinion of "Three Billboards" and great enthusiasm for The Shape of Water", I'm going to do something crazy.
5) Plummer
4) Harrelson
3) Rockwell
2) Jenkins
1) Dafoe
It should also be said I think its an exceptional year for this category. I consider all five performances to be terrific and the only field that gives them a challenge is the 2014 crowd.
Elimina1. Dafoe
RispondiElimina2. Jenkins

4. Harrelson
5. Rockwell
My personal rankings would be,
1. Rockwell
2. Dafoe
3. Harrelson
4. Jenkins
Plummer

1. Dafoe
RispondiElimina2. Jenkins
3. Plummer
4. Harrelson
5. Rockwell
A bunch of excellent character actors, even if they aren't my favourite performances by them. Keoghan's unnerving work in TKOASD would make my top 5 over some of these, at least over Jenkins (who is my 2015 winner for Bone Tomahawk) and Rockwell (who is awesome and should've been a nominee many times before this one). Haven't seen Plummer.
I liked Keoghan a lot and I would give him a 4.5, though I’m not necessarily enamored with his work. Out of the cast of The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Kidman stayed with me the most.
EliminaHaven't seen TKOASD but I have seen all five of these nominees. For Plummer I'll say that I agree with Louis in that his performance goes beyond the unusual circumstances of his casting.
RispondiEliminaKeoghan's performance is the kind of stuff you either enjoy or not. I was initially confused by his approach, but now I think he's a fascinating and incredibly chilling presence in the movie.
EliminaI'll check out ATMITW.
