Best Actress in a Supporting Role 1967

And the nominees are:

Charol Channing - Thoroughly Modern Millie
Mildred Natwick - Barefoot in the Park
Estelle Parsons - Bonnie and Clyde
Beah Richards - Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?
Katharine Ross - The Graduate

What are your predictions for my ranking? How would you personally rank the nominees?

  1. I'm really looking forward to these reviews, probably because I am so unfamiliar with most of these performances (and I don't really remember Estelle Parsons and Beah Richards enough to rate them fairly, but I think both were 3s for me.).

Have only seen Parsons, Ross and Richards, who I'd give a 4.5, 2, and 2.5 respectively (I'm not a big fan of Bonnie and Clyde and quite dislike Guess Who's Conming to Dinner). Just for referecence:

    The Graduate
    Hoffman: 5
    Bancroft: 5
    Ross: 4.5

    Bonnie and Clyde
    Beatty: 2.5
    Dunaway: 4
    Hackman: 3.5
    Parsons: 2
    Pollard: 2.5

    Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
    Poitier: 3
    Tracy: 3.5
    Hepburn: 3.5
    Glenn: 3
    Everyone else: 2 to 2.5

    1. Well I like Bonnie and Clyde much more than you do, but I agree about Guess Who's Coming to Dinner which I like just fine but it's really quite dated. I can't give you my ratings on the cast of The Graduate and Bonnie and Clyde as they were all nominated, but as for the un-nominated cast of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner:

      Poitier - 3
      Glenn - 3
      Sanford - 3
      Houghton - 1

    1. I really like In the Heat of the Night but it probably wouldn't be my Best Picture winner, I probably prefer The Graduate, Cool Hand Luke and Bonnie and Clyde. Poitier is great in that movie though (a 4.5 for me probably). I wasn't very impressed by Dean in that movie but I thought Lee Grant was very good and made the most out of her screen-time. Arkin is terrific in Wait Until Dark although he too is "only" a 4.5 for me. I'd probably nominate Jo Van Fleet in Cool Hand Luke for supporting, and Audrey Hepburn (Two for the Road) and Shirley Knight (Duchtman) for leading. Also, I believe Bancroft is supporting in The Graduate.

    2. I could easily move Bancroft into supporting, in which case Hepburn would be a double nominee for me in Lead.

  8. I'd be interested to see what you think about Estelle. She's the only one of this bunch I've seen--and I definitely thought she was jarring to say the least.

    1. I can't say what I think of her yet but your complaints are definitely understandable. It's indeed a very divisive performance and winner.
